Privacy Policy

Overview

Thoth is a transcription app that processes all audio and transcriptions locally on your device. We do not collect, store, or transmit any user data to our servers.

Data Collection

We do not collect any personal data.

All data remains on your device:

• Audio recordings — stored locally on your Mac
• Transcriptions — generated and stored locally using on-device AI (WhisperKit)
• AI models — downloaded from HuggingFace and cached locally in your Documents folder
• App preferences — stored locally in UserDefaults
• Subscription status — managed by Apple (Apple’s Privacy Policy)

AI Features

Thoth’s AI enhancement features require you to provide your own API key from a supported provider (OpenAI, Anthropic, or Google).

• Your API key is stored securely in your device’s Keychain
• AI requests go directly from your device to the AI provider using your credentials
• We never see, store, or have access to your API key or the data you send to AI providers
• Please refer to your chosen AI provider’s privacy policy for how they handle your data:

Third-Party Services

The only third-party services involved are:

• Apple — for subscription management and payments
• HuggingFace — AI models are downloaded from HuggingFace servers on first launch (one-time download, no user data transmitted)
• AI Providers (optional) — only if you choose to use AI features with your own API key

Children’s Privacy

Thoth does not knowingly collect any information from children under 13.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. Changes will be reflected in the “Last updated” date above.
